June 24, 2022 - Weekly Update

Howdy internet friend and welcome back to my blog! Regular readers will note that I usually post on Monday(s), but this week has been very hectic. I want to next write that Black Lives Matter! Third, if you want to skip to the dog pictures, you can just click here. Without any further adieu, let's dive in!

There is not much to report from me this week. I got more work done on my tattoo sleeve last weekend, and I have an appointment to get the last of it filled in next Wednesday. I started getting work done on that arm when I was 18 (that has since been covered up), and so it took almost twenty years to complete the sleeve. To be fair, from 18-28 there was only one thing on that arm, so really the vast majority was filled in over the last ten years.

People have asked me if I like getting tattoos and I used to say yes. However, my wife has the right answer, and the right answer is no! She wants to skip forward two weeks from the tattoo day, and that IS the right answer. While you are getting it, the piece hurts super bad (especially on areas that have bone close to the skin, like the wrist), it's irritating as it heals (it is painful/sore then it stings and finally itches), and it's overall a pretty crummy experience until all that is over and you are left with cool skin. Skipping ahead would be the pro move, and my wife would know since she is covered!

Shifting gears, I had a pretty interesting Fathers Day for reasons that I am not going to put on Beyoncé’s Internet. I spent my day thinking about how to be a better dad, including making a list of traits or characteristics that I think a good dad should have. Looking over them later, I realized I only do two or three things on the list. Thus it is my goal to use that experience to become a better father. I make it a point of doing a review of how I'm doing as a parent every six months or so and I've failed ever evaluation I've given myself so far. I don't want to run out of time to be a good dad, I need to turn it around now!

Moving on to a slightly different subject, I've been spending time over the last two weeks looking at the programming langauge Go once again. I put it down in the past because I found it hard to read, but I'm going to try to push past that because there are many benefits to using it. I started trying to hack on Python and it just wasn't giving me what I was looking for. I am building tools to automate tasks for work, so I'm not going to be updating my Gitlab page any time soon, but I might use my newly-gained knowledge to work on some stuff I've been thinking about for a while. Guess you'll just have to check back later to find out!

Oh! I got an email that our home warranty was going to be expiring soon and I found out that instead of paying almost $600 for an electrician to come out and fix our breaker box, for only $85 we had someone fix it yesterday. Which is great! Unfortunately we're going to have to spend about a thousand bucks to repair the roof (which was damaged in a wind storm) but we are going to pay extra to get a warranty for three years (which is probably about as long as we are going to stay in this place). There is someone who will do it for half as much, but without the warranty. I suspect that we will need to have more work done in the coming years, so I think it makes more sense to pay for the warranty, but I digress.

That's about all I have to report this week, internet friend. Sorry about the late update! I suspect next week the update will be shorter since it'll only be built around the weekend, but that's alright. I was more interesting in making sure that something got posted this week, I like to keep the streak of posting every week. I managed to do it for like a year and a half on my last blog. Anyway, I appreciate you taking the time to read this far. Enjoy the dog picture, and I hope you have a most excellent day and a fantastic weekend. Cheers, internet friend!
